New York Slow to Embrace Hospice Care

Hospice use is growing in the United States but lagging in New York. In 2012, 51 percent of chronically ill Americans in the last six months of their lives were enrolled in hospice, compared to 32 percent of New Yorkers. Only North Dakota and Alaska have a lower proportion of hospice enrollment.
